The Black Series 2-ball putter has a "Tour" insert. It has a soft elastomer plate with a firmer outer plate sandwiched together. This gives the Black Series better feel. Second, the metal pieces of the head construction are milled steel on the Black Series. This means that they take a solid piece of steel, and a machine removes metal until it is in the shape that they want. The standard two-balls are cast, meaning that molten metal is poured into a mold. Milling also gives the putter more feel and responsiveness. Third, the black series has a tungsten weight in the back of the putter head. This makes for a deeper and farther back center of gravity, which make the ball roll better. Fourth, the black series has a dark nickel plated finish. Nickel plating is a bit darker than the light grey on the standard two-ball putters. The darker finish is preferred by many tour players as it reduces glare.
Basically, the Black Series putters take longer to make because they use processes that are more precise than the average manufacturing process. The same can be said for something like a Scotty Cameron. There is no room for error, and if it isn’t perfect, they won’t sell it. This is why putters like this cost more. In the end, you get a putter that that feels smooth, and rolls the ball better (at least that is what they claim). Many pros can tell the difference though.
